Drawing on the history of women’s crafts, “The Stash” was inspired by fabric designs from William Morris to Marimekko. These paintings explore the limitless variety of patterns and colour combinations used in textiles, while also paying homage to the often unknown designers of them.

In the last century many women’s crafts were a result of thrift, recycling and re-use of scraps of valuable fabric. Now cupboards often groan under the chaos of obsessively collected additions to “the stash”, as we continue to buy and store more than we can possibly use.
Is “the stash” over- enthusiasm for the beauty and seduction of beautiful fabrics and their power to evoke memory, or another example of over consumption? |
